Tips and Tricks – Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)

April 24, 2009 by Mike

Time for more GTA DS tips.

Time for more GTA DS tips.

It’s time for more Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars tutorials. If you had fun cheating in street races or jacking a fire truck, then get ready for this week’s adventures: hurl huge crates from the back of a truck (yes, it’s actually fun!), perform a rescue while cops are after you, and defuse vans before they explode. Sound crazy? Trust us, it gets even nuttier so pay close attention.

These three missions are courtesy of Zhou Ming, one of the aspiring Triad bosses.

Remember: before showing up on Zhou’s doorstep, you better have two bags of weed on your possession or Stealing the Show (the mission) won’t start.

  • Once you regain control, get in the truck and drive to the gas station marked on your GPS.
  • The setup changes, with Zhou driving the truck you previously used, and Huang would be riding on the back of the delivery truck. Your job would be to toss the crates to Zhou Ming while the delivery truck is moving.
  • Throwing the crates is like hurling Molotov cocktails, by touching and sliding the crate icon on the touchscreen.
  • The best time to throw a crate is when Zhou is directly behind the delivery truck. Don’t rush! Just make sure you throw the crates properly. Once Zhou catches 15 crates, it’s time to leave. Press X to jump off the delivery truck.
  • Get in the truck, take the goods back to Zhou’s club, park the truck inside the garage, and the mission ends.

It’s time for Flatliner. Again, pay a visit to Zhou as indicated by the GPS. The mission is then triggered. Fasten your seatbelts, this mission isn’t as easy.

  • Zhou wants you to Francis International Airport to pick up his friend Uri. Just follow the GPS to know exactly where.
  • The gate would open automatically. You’d be prompted to steal the ambulance that Uri is in. Careful, there are a few cops here so you better take care of them first before jacking the ambulance. Your wanted level is now through the roof.
  • Enter the ambulance, stay cool, and follow the GPS route to take Uri back to Zhou’s lock up. Things however aren’t as simple. Uri has a heart problem and could die any minute. Pay attention to the lower screen—there’s a display there showing Uri’s vital signs.
  • The cops would try to block your way and all the stress would take its toll on Uri. Dodge the cop cars whenever they get in your way.
  • Uri would eventually flatline. You’ll be able to tell because of the audio cue (long, unending beep) and Uri’s symbol would be blinking. When this happens, touch the heart on the lower screen until Uri’s heart restarts.
  • Remember: you have to keep dodging cop cars while all of this is happening.
  • When Uri’s heart resumes pumping, just keep going and follow the GPS route. In case Uri gets another flatline, repeat the revival process.
  • If you see a roadblock ahead, switch to the opposite lane or road to avoid it.
  • When you reach your destination, park the ambulance in Zhao’s garage. A short cinematic sequence then kicks in.
  • Huang would exit the garage, and the mission ends.

Things don’t get any easier with Bomb Disposal, so head back to Zhou.

  • Your first objective in this mission is to find the armed bombs stashed inside three separate vans. The vans are the red dots roaming around the city. Just follow these dots and defuse the bombs before they detonate.
  • Here’s how it’s going to work: enter the van to begin defusing the bomb; Open the bomb casing using the touchscreen; and use the voltmeter to find the wire with the highest voltage and cut it with the knife.
  • Once the bomb is defused, several armed thugs would try to finish you off. Take care of the thugs, get their weapons, and drive to the next van. Rinse and repeat.
  • At the third bomb is defused, Hsin’s men would attack the stash cars. Your next objective is to stop them. Hsin’s men are the red dots on the map. Find them, shoot them.
  • The last red dot on the map is a bomb-van that you need to stop. Shower it with Uzi fire until it blows up. The mission is done.

    Hey John,

Here’s how you use the voltage meter: just tap on each wire to read the voltage–whichever one’s voltage reads the highest is the one you need to cut. That’s pretty much it.
