Tips and Tricks – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

The Forest Temple is the first “dungeon” in Twilight Princess. In Zelda parlance, a dungeon is a sort of underworld (though it’s not always necessarily the case) that Link is supposed to conquer. Each dungeon contains an essential quest item, treasure, or boss to defeat. The Forest Temple presents a couple of bosses that Link must overcome. Today, we show you how to beat these foes.

The first “mini-boss” is an overgrown baboon named Ook, which possesses a vital (and trademark) Zelda weapon—the boomerang. In Twilight Princess, the proper name of this weapon is the Gale Boomerang. It summons small gales that can be used to retrieve objects or attack enemies. The Gale Boomerang is needed to defeat Diababa, the main boss of Forest Temple.

Here’s how Ook is beaten:

The steps to winning the battle: dodge the Gale Boomerang, ram the pillar Ook is standing on, and attack the baboon’s rear end while he’s stunned.

Diababa is a huge, three-headed plant that takes up most of the screen. The boss has two plant heads and one main head with a hidden eye in its mouth. The video below shows the quickest way to beat Diababa:

To beat Diababa, Link must first target the Bomblings (i.e. exploding spider bombs) seen in the level using the Gale Boomerang, then target one of the relatively smaller plant heads. One bomb is enough to blow up each plant head.

The battle then changes when the two plant heads are destroyed and Ook the baboon starts swinging across the battlefield carrying a Bombling. Link must target Ook/the Bombling first as they swing across the screen, then target the main Diababa head.

Hitting the main Diababa head would stun the beast and cause the hidden eye to be exposed. Attack the eye quickly with the sword. After Link damages the eye, Diababa would spray poison so be prepared to dodge. Rinse and repeat.
