Tips and Tricks – No More Heroes (Wii)

September 25, 2008 by Mike

There’s nothing quite like No More Heroes for the Nintendo Wii. Aside from its rather violent gameplay that deviates from the typical kid-friendly Wii titles, No More Heroes comes with an absurd story and uses wacky concepts that put it in a class of its own. To make the most out of your No More Heroes experience, consider the following basic gameplay tips and tricks:

  • There's nothing quite like No More heroes

The Dark Step is perhaps the most important move that you can master in No More Heroes because it’s particularly useful against bosses. To execute the Dark Step, lock into an enemy, block, then wait for them to attack. After the attack, move the analog stick left and right. Travis, the protagonist, would parry to the side of the foe then the screen would darken (thus the name Dark Step). If done correctly, the dark screen should trigger slow motion, giving you the advantage. This is the time to attack until the enemy recovers.

  • Here’s an age-old trick that works: do not rush large groups of enemies—that would only get you killed. The trick is to draw one or two away from the group at a time. To do this, proceed slowly.
  • Another age-old gamer trick: don’t be too aggressive when facing stage bosses. The trick is to allow bosses to attack first, and then perform the Dark Step to get even.
  • Unlike the Jedi weapon, your lightsaber beam katana runs out of batteries so you should keep an eye on its power. If you do run out of batteries, you can recharge it manually. Just make sure you put a considerable distance between Travis and your enemies when doing so. Remember that blocking strong attacks like bullets would drain your beam katana so be alert.
  • The No More Heroes swordplay never gets old.

If you’re trying to amass more loot quickly, focus on the assassination missions available at K-Entertainment. They pay better than the job center.

  • To save money, don’t buy clothes. They don’t affect Travis’ stats so purchase only when you have a surplus.
  • It’s a good idea to stop by Thunder Ryu’s gym after every ranked mission because the workouts increase strength and vitality. More vitality means Travis can withstand more damage.
  • If you want to see the real ending of No More Heroes, you have to buy each of Dr. Naomi’s beam katanas (there are three). The beam katanas won’t be available at once—they would only be on hand at specific points of the game. If you don’t know when these specific points are, then visit Naomi’s Lab every so often.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting more tips and tricks for No More Heroes. Stay tuned!
