Wii Motion Plus + Red Steel = awesome?

Red Steel generated a lot of buzz leading to its release not because of aggressive marketing, but because it was the first third-party game for the Nintendo Wii to show off a few dazzling screenshots. What’s not to love? Red Steel was a first-person shooter using the Wii’s motion controls. The game was supposed to change the way we play console shooters. Unfortunately, things took a bad turn when Red Steel came out—the critics were disappointed with Red Steel’s iffy controls.

Red Steel 2 hopes to change all that.

The sequel is still a first-person shooter and you still alternate between hacking foes with a katana and shooting them in the face. The difference maker is going to be the Wii Motion Plus, an add-on device for the Wiimote provides a greater range of complex motions. Exactly how is Wii Motion Plus going to change the sword fights? The original Wii Sports enjoyed the benefit of being bundled with the Wii. Today, Nintendo hopes to replicate this success by putting together Wii Sports Resort and the Wii MotionPlus accessory in one package. If you haven’t heard, Wii MotionPlus is an expansion for the Wiimote that captures more complex motions. The jaded critics weigh in on Wii Sports Resort and its plug-in accessory.

Tiger Woods, Jimmy Fallon duel with Wii Golf

Late night host Jimmy Fallon is on a roll. After playing Punch Out!! with Elmo on the Wii and taking on Project Natal, Fallon has beaten Tiger Woods at his own game. Fallon recently dueled with Woods in Times Square for a round of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the Nintendo Wii. As you may have heard, Tiger’s new game uses the Wii Motion Plus, so watch it in action here.

Nintendo to sell black Wii in August

Remember when the Nintendo Wii was initially dubbed as the “Revolution”? Back then, the console was advertised as color black. When the Nintendo console finally came out last 2006, it was renamed as the Wii and was now sporting a white coat. Today, Nintendo announced that they’re releasing a black-colored Wii, and it’s coming in August.
