A Boy and His Blob shows promise for the Wii
October 12, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

A Boy and His Blob should be a Wii sleeper.
Whoever said the Wii doesn’t have enough quality games should get their eyes checked. Granted, there are guaranteed clunkers like Project Runway, but there are still gems in Nintendo’s console—you just need to know where to look. Case in point: take the new A Boy and His Blob. Sure, the 2D platformer isn’t out yet (as of this writing), but its gameplay videos should make you want to preorder it.

Pokémon “enhanced” remakes don’t really have enhancements
August 17, 2009 by Mike · 11 Comments

Same Pokémon game, different packaging.
Nintendo sure loves printing its own money. To keep up with the DS (and all its variants) handheld’s blistering pace, The House That Mario Built decided to roll out an “enhanced” remake of Pokémon Gold and Silver games, which came out for the Game Boy Color back in 1999. The enhanced remakes are christened Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. If you want to see how the upcoming Pokémon games look, then check out the video after the jump. Be warned: there’s not much difference between the “enhanced” remakes and its recent predecessors.

New videos show Scribblenauts’ flawed gameplay
July 21, 2009 by Mike · 11 Comments

The Scribblenauts collision detection is shoddy.
Scribblenauts is currently getting massive doses of hype and with good reason. The upcoming DS game is incredibly ambitious, boasting a mind-boggling 10,000 different objects that can be used within the game. All you have to do is type in the word and presto, you get the item. It looks incredible on paper. Execution, however, is another matter.

Portable SNES plays original cartridges

SNES gaming on the go.
If you’re looking to play old SNES games on the go without resorting to illegal means, then you’re out of luck. While the SNES may be lighter than today’s consoles, it’s still too big to lug around. Fortunately, a modder was inspired to address the problem by creating a portable SNES. Watch the video after the jump for a demonstration.

Dead Space Wii might not be a cheap cash in after all
July 6, 2009 by Mike · 4 Comments

Is Dead Space Wii a cash in or bonafide game?
As you may have heard, Dead Space is coming to the Nintendo Wii and it’s going to be a rail shooter “guided first-person experience.” It can’t be helped that the decision to make Dead Space: Extraction a rail shooter has raised some concerns, namely the impression that this Wii game is merely a lazy cash in. Maybe this new video providing some details on Dead Space: Extraction’s control scheme would change your mind.

Mario fights the Spartans of Halo
February 21, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Mario is at war with Spartans.
It’s official: the Mushroom Kingdom is at war with all the Spartans of Halo—at least that’s what a trailer tells us. There’s no rhyme or reason for the hostility, but the ensuing battle sure is hilarious. The action is also a strange sight as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Bullet Bills, all fight with Mario against the 3D Spartans. The video’s maker also made references to Dragonball Z. Can you find it amidst the chaos?

See the Nintendo DSi bells and whistles.
By this time, you’ve probably already heard that the Nintendo DSi is coming to North America on April 5. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the DSi and with good reason—its improvement isn’t merely limited to the handheld’s screen. Aside from obvious new features like the camera, the DSi is coming with even more bells and whistles. Nintendo was kind enough to put together a video detailing the new stuff.

Madworld for the Wii is gleefully violent
February 16, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Blood is the only color in Madworld.
This year is shaping up to be a boon for Wii owners looking for games that are a bit more “mature” (i.e. violent). Halfway through February, and we’ve already seen the release of Deadly Creatures and The House of the Dead: Overkill. Next week, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop would hit store shelves. Don’t forget to mark your calendar next month because Madworld is coming.
