Hearts—it’s all about the hearts. The title refers to hearts; the characters are on a quest to get hearts. Welcome to Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, an action RPG for the Nintendo DS. You’ve probably learned by know that the Kingdom Hearts series is well-liked to say they least. The first two PlayStation 2 games sold for a combined 9.2 million copies or so, while the new DS release is moving almost a million units as of this writing, and it’s not even out for over a month yet.

So what’s the deal with Kingdom Hearts? Why is it insanely popular? Two things: Final Fantasy and Disney. But is the underlying game in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days as prodigious as its commercial success? We find out.

When one speaks of multiplatform titles, the Wii usually gets the short end of the stick. This isn’t really a surprise considering that the Wii isn’t comparable to the other current-generation consoles in terms of sheer power. However, what the Wii lacks in processing muscle it makes up in its unique motion controls. While many Wii games don’t make good use of the console’s special controls, Resident Evil 4 is one of those rare occasions when everything falls together perfectly.

There’s a good chance you’ve already played Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube or PlayStation 2, but its arrival on the Wii is good enough reason to go through it again. As you may have figured, the Wii is great fit for shooters. Slapping motion controls on a classic like RE4 breathes new life to the game, making it so good that it begs to be played.

Again, the DSi leads the handheld race.

Japanese hardware sales may always have the same winner in this console generation (i.e. Nintendo), but the Kyoto-based company’s means for reaching the top varies from time to time. This week, Nintendo again leads the console wars because of two games: Tomodachi Collection for the DS and Wii Sports Resort for—you guessed it—the Wii.

The world is back to normal, at least in Nintendo’s eyes. Kotaku revealed that after a few weeks of declining sales, the Japanese console hardware market has finally gotten out of a funk. You know what that means: Nintendo is still on top, and its products are selling like crazy. Of course, this rise is pretty minor compared to typical year-end numbers, but up is up and you can’t argue with that.

Nintendo Wii sets U.S. sales record

So much for the recession.

Okay, so the recession does somehow make its mark. Research firm NPD revealed that the U.S. console market suffered a 23% year-on-year decline during May 2009. This didn’t seem to stop Nintendo’s rampage, however. Once again, Nintendo has set a record in Wii sales. Find out more after the jump.

Nintendo dominates Japan hardware sales in early October

According to Media Create, a Japanese console games market analyst, Nintendo again dominated hardware sales. It’s not exactly news, but the big surprise is the winner of the software charts. Macross Ace Frontier, an anime-licensed game for the PSP, takes the top honors and edges out Pokémon Platinum for the DS.
