Link and Zelda team up in Spirit Tracks!
There’s no denying it—the biggest DS game right now is The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. You may be a bit disillusioned with the last Legend of Zelda because of a certain recurring level, so you may not be your usual Zelda-loving self. It’s perfectly understandable! But good news—Nintendo has learned its lesson in Spirit Tracks, and has ditched the punishing design of the previous game.
Despite this improvement, Spirit Tracks‘ overall rating is slightly lower compared to Phantom Hourglass. But you know what? I’ll take a slightly-lower score over better overall design any day. Here’s what the critics think of Spirit Tracks:

Player-created mod for Super Mario World is EVIL
November 23, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Everything about this level is EVIL.
So you finally have New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and according to some reports, the new platformer is as tough as Contra. Do you really believe that? While MTV Multiplayer and Joystiq’s assertions are possible, there can truly be no comparison to the sheer evil you’re about to witness in Super Mario World. But wait! Before you start asking which world the video is from, let me be clear: it’s a player-created mod.
As you’ll see, the level is mind-numbingly difficult. So difficult that the video can be hard to watch in some stretches. Enjoy.

Wii, DS could regain lead in Japan in Q4
November 21, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Nintendo's holiday performance rests on Mario and Zelda.
Despite the Wii and DS’s hefty overall lead in the system wars, this week’s Japanese hardware charts show that the PlayStation 3 and PSP has taken a chunk out of Nintendo’s advantage. According to Kotaku, PSP sales have shot to the top spot, leaving the DSi and Wii in third and fourth place, respectively. The PS3, on the other hand, “declined” to number two.

November 14, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

NSMBW comes in "Mario Red."
Ever since the Nintendo Wii came out in 2006, its game boxes have always come in white. Well, expect that to change when you see the box for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which will come in red. According to Nintendo head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime, the decision came from the company’s home office in Japan. Why did Nintendo decide to color Mario Red?
Good question. Kotaku asked Fils-Aime the same thing. Here’s what Reggie had to say:

Reggie: NSMBW to outsell MW2!
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has thrown down the gauntlet. The challenge: Reggie believes that the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to outperform Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But before shooter fanboys start screaming heresy, there’s a catch—Reggie is sure that the new Mario game would outsell either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version, but isn’t promising to beat both.

You're all in the same boat--literally.
Are you one of the gamers who found New Super Mario Bros. on the DS too easy? Great news: the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to be so hard your self-esteem is going to drop like a rock. At least, that’s what the game journos at MTV Multiplayer and Joystiq said. MTV thinks New Super Mario Bros. Wii is “as hard as Contra,” while Joystiq expects people playing the game’s coop mode to turn homicidal.
If like me, you find the idea of exasperating, controller-hurling gameplay a thrill, then you’re probably aching for New Super Mario Bros. Wii. While you’re waiting for the November 15 launch to arrive, watch the game’s latest trailer—maybe you’ll find something that strikes your fancy.
