The real life Mario Kart?
Last week, we showed you the trailer for Mario Kart: The Movie, which isn’t really an upcoming movie. Today, we show you another Mario Kart video clip. The difference? This one is the real deal. “Real” meaning the kart is truly racing dangerously through city streets. Of course, it’s not really Mario driving, just some guy dressed like him. Oh, and Santa Claus isn’t real.

The old NES version of Punch-Out!! holds a 22-year secret that even its most hardcore fans know nothing about. In a recent roundtable for the Wii version of the boxing classic, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata talked with several developers about a few interesting revelations about Punch-Out!!’s NES version.

Kōji Kondō's Super Mario theme has another strange version.
When Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario in the 1980s, he probably didn’t expect the character to evolve into a cultural icon. Neither did Kōji Kondō when he composed the Super Mario Bros. “overworld” theme. Today, Mario and his theme are ubiquitous. Through the years, different versions have been made, from Tesla coils to dual guitars, fans have done it all. This week, we check out another adaptation from someone with a lot of time in his hands.

Mario fights the Spartans of Halo

Mario is at war with Spartans.
It’s official: the Mushroom Kingdom is at war with all the Spartans of Halo—at least that’s what a trailer tells us. There’s no rhyme or reason for the hostility, but the ensuing battle sure is hilarious. The action is also a strange sight as Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Bullet Bills, all fight with Mario against the 3D Spartans. The video’s maker also made references to Dragonball Z. Can you find it amidst the chaos?

Mario dominates game charts in Japan

Mario is again #1 in Japan.
News of a Wii game dominating the Japanese charts is nothing new, but this latest tidbit could raise a few eyebrows. According to Media Create (via Kotaku), the top game in Japan is Wii de Asobu: Mario Power Tennis, which is a Wii remake of a Nintendo GameCube title.

Hardcore fans rejoice! If the recent announcement of the DSi wasn’t enough, Nintendo also announced that Punch-Out!!, a classic boxing game for the NES, would be coming out exclusively for the Wii in 2009. Still in denial? Then watch the video to quell all your doubts.
