Review - Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition (Wii)
October 1, 2009 by Mike · 2 Comments

Welcome to Resident Evil 4. Underwear sold separately.
When one speaks of multiplatform titles, the Wii usually gets the short end of the stick. This isn’t really a surprise considering that the Wii isn’t comparable to the other current-generation consoles in terms of sheer power. However, what the Wii lacks in processing muscle it makes up in its unique motion controls. While many Wii games don’t make good use of the console’s special controls, Resident Evil 4 is one of those rare occasions when everything falls together perfectly.
There’s a good chance you’ve already played Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube or PlayStation 2, but its arrival on the Wii is good enough reason to go through it again. As you may have figured, the Wii is great fit for shooters. Slapping motion controls on a classic like RE4 breathes new life to the game, making it so good that it begs to be played.

Metroid Prime 3 is a must-own compilation.
If you’re a true blue Metroid fan, then there’s a very good chance you’ve already heard of Metroid Prime: Trilogy, a compilation of all three Metroid Prime games for the Nintendo Wii. Good news: it’s already out in North America, and a few of the critics have already given their two cents’ worth. Surprisingly, not everyone seems to share your enthusiasm.

Star Fox fan project coming to computer platforms
July 18, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Let's hope this Star Fox survives long enough for fans to play.
The last time we saw a Star Fox game for consoles was over four years ago on the Nintendo GameCube. This is probably why a handful of fans have decided to take the matter into their own hands and make a new Star Fox game. Alas, since it’s fan made, Star Fox: Shadows of Lylat is coming to “major” computer platforms (i.e. Windows, Linux, Mac).

Reviews Surfing - Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil (Wii)
July 14, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment
Once again, Capcom has released a Resident Evil for the Nintendo Wii. Thankfully, it’s not a rail shooter. The “new” game is named Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil and it’s a port of a 2002 GameCube remake whose mechanics are based on a 13-year old game. Yes, even the game’s origins are convoluted. Scoff if you must, but Resident Evil remains timeless because it’s darn good and that’s why even the cynical critics like it.

Metroid Prime is getting a Wii-make this August.
Of late, Nintendo has been busy re-releasing GameCube games for the Wii and slapping on a new “New Play Control!” logo on the case. The latest Wii-make: all three Metroid Prime games are coming to a single Wii disk, and it’s going to be called Metroid Prime Trilogy. Holy Wii-makes, Batman!

Wii sales in Japan: The Big Picture
April 25, 2009 by Mike · Leave a Comment

Forget the drama, the Wii is still #1 overall. For now, at least.
Is the Nintendo Wii’s dominance in Japan over? For two straight months, the Wii has been outsold by Sony’s PS3 in the Land of the Rising Sun, and this has been attributed to the Nintendo console’s less attractive lineup of GameCube remakes. As a result, Nintendo’s stock has also taken a hit because of the Wii’s year-on-year “decline.”

Wii outsold by PS3 for second month in a row
April 4, 2009 by Mike · 6 Comments

Talk about strange. For the second month in a row, the PlayStation 3 has outsold Nintendo’s Wii in Japan. The difference between the two consoles aren’t massive, but Sony’s more expensive console seems to be hanging on—thanks to its currently more attractive lineup. Nintendo’s console, in contrast, has been stuck with GameCube remakes for the Wii.

Mario dominates game charts in Japan

Mario is again #1 in Japan.
News of a Wii game dominating the Japanese charts is nothing new, but this latest tidbit could raise a few eyebrows. According to Media Create (via Kotaku), the top game in Japan is Wii de Asobu: Mario Power Tennis, which is a Wii remake of a Nintendo GameCube title.
