Sonic Unleashed video shows Wii gameplay

November 4, 2008 by Mike

If you haven’t seen the new trailer for the Nintendo Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, now’s your chance. The best part: the entire video is all about gameplay—no useless pre-rendered CG teasers here. The not-so-good part: it’s less than a minute in length.

While the trailer does show us how the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed looked, it doesn’t give any details on how the console’s distinct control scheme is used, other than the instance involving Sonic’s “werehog” form. Based on the video, players can use the Wiimote to swing on bars, but not much else.

What is interesting about Sonic Unleashed is the sense of speed provided by the game. The pace can be expected to change when Sonic transforms into a werehog, and this may be a cause for concern among fans. A lot of combat seems to be involved during the werehog parts, but if Sonic Team manages to put together enjoyable gameplay for either form, we’re looking at a Sonic resurgence.

Sonic Unleashed is coming to North American store shelves on November 18, 2008.
