Reviews Surfing - The Beatles: Rock Band (Wii)
September 15, 2009 by Mike

The Beatles have invaded the Wii.
Talk about rhythm game fatigue. Last week, we showed you how Guitar Hero 5 was doing on the Nintendo Wii. I’ll give you a hint: the critics loved it. Today, another rhythm game for the Wii is set to compete for our attention and budget. The Beatles: Rock Band is now released, and with much fanfare not only because it’s about the Beatles, but because it’s a really good game. See what the jaded critics think.
Destructoid: (90%) “In a space where single-band titles are inevitable, there are few bands that truly do deserve to get this kind of treatment. In this case, Harmonix has treated the band’s music, art, and history with a respect and reverence that sets it apart from other similar collections. The question is, how will anyone held responsible for a full band game — Harmonix or otherwise — ever really be able to clear the bar that’s been set?”
IGN: (90%) “For those who have a love or even just a fondness for the Fab Four, Harmonix has created a fantastic tribute. It won’t teach you the full history of the world’s most celebrated band nor give you even a quarter of their extraordinary catalogue of music, but it’s still great. The Beatles went out of their way to do new things. So it’s no surprise that a Beatles game doesn’t feel at all like the traditional music title. It’s special. What Beatles fan would want it any other way?”
GameSpy: (90%) “Whether or not you purchase The Beatles: Rock Band should ultimately be determined by your feelings about the band itself. If you love, like, or are even lukewarm on the band, grab it. Playing through the songs you’ve likely heard for your entire life gives you a new appreciation for the level of musicianship and songwriting on display. Somehow, Harmonix found a way to make the greatest band of all time even better.”
You’ve read the reviews, now it’s time to decide. Do you get The Beatles: Rock Band or not? While the game is garnering high reviews left and right, perhaps it still boils down to preference. If you’re not a Beatles fan, then it might not be a good idea to pick this game up. If you ARE a Beatles fan, The Beatles: Rock Band is a must-own, even if you’re not a Rock Band aficionado.
