Does Guitar Hero 5 set itself apart?

Does Guitar Hero 5 set itself apart?

It’s time for another numbered Guitar Hero installment. As the number following the title suggests, Guitar Hero 5 is the fifth numbered game in the popular series, but it’s certainly not the only Guitar Hero installment this year. In fact, Guitar Hero 5 is already the third Guitar Hero game released this year, and perhaps a couple more are expected before the year ends. Can Guitar Hero 5 set itself apart from the other Guitar Hero installments? The critics have weighed in.

GameDaily: (90%) “Although Guitar Hero 5 plays exactly like its predecessors, Activision more than made up for that with improved options, a stellar cast of characters, a top-notch set list and wonderful creation tools. It’s hard to imagine how much longer this show will last, but as long as it’s this entertaining, we’ll keep waving our lighters.”

Cheat Code Central: (80%) “Certainly, Guitar Hero 5 is the best title in the franchise’s illustrious history. Furthermore, it is undeniably the best music game ever made, as it synthesizes the best of the genre into one neat package. The only question is, is this the reawakening of a phenomenon, or just a beautiful swan song? I guess only time will tell.”

IGN: (93%) “Guitar Hero 5 on Wii isn’t a must-own game because of one standout feature or option; it’s the total package through and through. True, some gamers – myself included, to a certain extent – are getting tired of the GH formula after three years and an astounding nine games, but if you’re still down to rock on Wii there’s no better game on the system than Guitar Hero 5.”

Game Chronicles: (97%) “It would have been so easy to just release another knock-off port, but Vicarious Visions has designed Guitar Hero 5 from the ground up for maximum enjoyment for the entire family. I can only imagine mom and dad jamming on their guitars while the kids are waging their own Roadie Battle next to them. This is a game everyone with a Wii needs to buy, and if you don’t already own a DS…well, you soon will.”

Judging from the reviews, it appears that Guitar Hero 5 has raised the bar in Guitar Hero games. If you’re trying to decide which Guitar Hero game to get, part five should be a good choice. Let’s just hope that future Guitar Hero releases would have the same amount of advancements as this one.
