New Super Mario Bros. Wii to outsell Modern Warfare 2

Reggie: NSMBW to outsell MW2!
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has thrown down the gauntlet. The challenge: Reggie believes that the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to outperform Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. But before shooter fanboys start screaming heresy, there’s a catch—Reggie is sure that the new Mario game would outsell either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version, but isn’t promising to beat both.
And you know what? It’s a pretty solid claim.
The last major Mario-only game on the Wii was Super Mario Galaxy, and we all know how that turned out. considering the Wii’s install base has grown since 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy, that claim might be decided sooner than we think. Then again, the PS3 and Xbox 360’s numbers have increased greatly as well since their respective price cuts so it’s going to be an interesting match of marquee titles.
Reggie added another stipulation: we have to look at the entire holiday season so the numbers would include January NPD data. Of course, it’s not so cut and dry. We have to consider that the data would be limited to NPD (i.e. North America) figures, where as you know, shooters reign supreme.
So which game do you think is going to be ahead when the January NPD numbers are shown? Expect us to look closely at the results.
