First-ever video for Ragnarok Online DS is shown

Ragnarok Online is big. So big that GungHo Entertainment, the game publisher that hosts the Japanese server of Ragnarok Online, decided to release a Nintendo DS version of the popular MMORPG. Rumors of the DS port surfaced a few months ago, but existence of the game remain unconfirmed—until today.
Given the hardware limitations, expect that the DS version of Ragnarok Online won’t have the same online play (i.e. it’s not massively multiplayer). According to IGN, the game’s storyline would be original—and would have a main character whose name is Ares, If Ragnarok Online DS would have a main character, then perhaps it’s safe to assume that it would have a single-player campaign as well.
Despite not being massively multiplayer, Ragnarok Online DS would come with support for three-way cooperative play via Wi-Fi and have 50 multiplayer dungeons. It would also sport a control scheme similar to the PC version, thanks to the handheld’s touch screen. The IGN article also revealed that players would have to use stylus motions to attack enemies, use items, and perform skills.
Given the popularity of the Nintendo handheld and the Korean-made MMORPG, Ragnarok Online DS might shape up to be a commercial hit. Ragnarok Online DS is hitting Japan store shelves on December 18. Unfortunately, there is no word if the DS game would ever have an English version.
