Does Cobain belong in Guitar Hero?
Before the popularity of Guitar Hero, the game, the term “guitar hero” referred to technically-proficient guitar players who can shred the lights out of a performance. It’s no wonder many of the songs in Guitar Hero feature fast solos that could cause cramps on even the hardiest of digits. But when Activision announced that the late Kurt Cobain was going to be digitized for Guitar Hero 5, I couldn’t help but scratch my head.

Wii still leads U.S. home consoles, faces sales decline

The Wii still leads consoles, but it's hurting.
There’s good news and bad news. First, the good–Nintendo is still on top of the home console race in the U.S. during July 2009, with the Wii selling more than any of its competitors. There’s just one major problem: the Wii sold less than half of what it did during the same period last year.

Review - Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (DS)

What secrets does this box hold?
With the exception of its remarkable predecessor, there’s nothing quite like Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, a puzzle/adventure game for the DS that combines old world mystique, an oddly compelling tale, and mind-bending puzzles. The Diabolical Box a worthy sequel that leaves you scratching your head, but in an entirely good way.

Metroid Prime 3 is a must-own compilation.
If you’re a true blue Metroid fan, then there’s a very good chance you’ve already heard of Metroid Prime: Trilogy, a compilation of all three Metroid Prime games for the Nintendo Wii. Good news: it’s already out in North America, and a few of the critics have already given their two cents’ worth. Surprisingly, not everyone seems to share your enthusiasm.

A trailer for the New Super Mario Bros. Wii has just been released, showing off the latest features that the throwback platformer would come with. The upcoming 2D Mario adventure is going to introduce new suits, deviously-designed levels, and other features that would turn this Wii adventure upside down.

If you’re an 80s child and love all things 8-bit, then you’d probably get misty eyed watching this mind-blowing tribute to Pong, International Karate, Tetris, the NES, and Super Mario Bros., among other things. “8-Bit Trip” is a labor of love by Daniel Larsson and Tomas Redigh of Rymdreglage.

Nintendo ousts Mattel in global toy market
Nintendo is rolling over in dough.
Step aside, Barbie; out of the way, Elmo. It looks like Mario and his pals are number one. You see, Nintendo’s success isn’t limited to the video games market. According to a report from CompaniesAndMarkets (via MCV), the Kyoto-based console maker is now on top of the global toys and games market.

Tips and Tricks - Punch-Out!! (Wii)

Super Macho Man comes with a few new tricks.
During Punch-Out!!’s NES days, Super Macho Man is remembered as the boxer before the final match, the pugilist you have to go through before fighting Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream. In the Wii version of Punch-Out!!, Super Macho Man gets a slight demotion and is placed a couple of matches before the dream fight. However, this doesn’t mean that Super Macho Man is no less dangerous. Today, we’ll tell you how to knock Super Macho Man down in the first round.
